Proposed Yorkshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)

Natural England has published its consultation response analysis report relating to the proposal to designate a new Yorkshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

Natural England has also given notice of its statutory notice period enabling anyone to view the proposals and make representations, if they wish, in relation to that proposal. Representations can be submitted via email to YorksWoldsDesignationProject@naturalengland.org.uk, or via letter to Yorkshire Wolds AONB, PO Box 351, Holmfirth, HD9 9A, and the notice period will close at midnight on Friday, 6 March 2026.

Read more about the proposed Yorkshire Wolds AONB here.

If you have the East Riding app you will automatically be notified when to put your bin out for collection.

Weekly brown bin collections have started

From Monday 9 February, some residents will have switched to weekly brown bin collections. This may mean your green and blue bin collection dates have changed too.

You should have received your new recycling information pack in the post which includes your new bin collection calendar. Please put your bin out before 7am on your collection date.

You can also check your new bin collection dates on the ERYC website.

If you have the East Riding app you will automatically be notified when to put your bin out for collection.

We Need Your Views!

The defibrillator outside The Gait Inn, Millington is equipped with a set of adult pads which are recommended for use on patients who are more than 8 years old or weigh more than 25kg (55 lbs). Paediatric pads are also available which deliver a lower energy output (Adult 95J to 354J, Paediatric 22J to 82J) and are designed for patients who are less than 8 years old or weigh less than 25kg (55 lbs).

The Parish Council have been asked to consider whether to purchase a set of paediatric pads for the defibrillator. These cost more than the adult pads (around £100 per set compared to £75) and have the same lifespan of approximately 2 years.

Please let us know whether you feel we should purchase a set of paediatric pads by e-mailing us or by using the Contact Us page.

Help for Households

You could get £250 from the Household Support Fund.

If you do not have sufficient income to meet your essential daily living costs, you can make an application for a one-off Household Support Fund payment of £250.

This is to support you with food, energy bills and other essentials you may need.

You can view the eligibility criteria and apply online here.

Changes to Brown Bin Collections

The weekly collections of brown bins will begin from Monday 9 February for two thirds of the East Riding – including the Bridlington, Driffield, Holderness, Market Weighton and Goole areas. They will then be rolled out to the remaining third from February 2027 to towns and villages in the Beverley, Cottingham, Willerby, Brough, Anlaby and Hessle areas.

You can read more about the changes here.

Order a Free Food Waste Starter Pack

Weekly brown bin collections are coming, are you ready to recycle your food waste? If you don't already recycle your food waste, you can order a free starter pack and get it delivered to your door.

The starter pack includes a kitchen caddy and two rolls of caddy liners.

Order your free food waste starter pack here.

Mobile Library Service

Did you know that the East Riding Libraries Mobile Library visits Millington each month?
It parks outside The Gait Inn between 3:05pm and 3:20pm, and the next visits will be on Monday 23rd February and Monday 23rd March.

Please help us to spread the word about this valuable service!

You can find out more about the Millington Mobile Library, including the schedule for the first half of 2026, here.

Commemorative Tree

The Parish Council are intending to plant a Commemorative Tree as a permanent reminder of the D Day, VE Day and VJ Day commemorations that have taken place over the last 18 months.
Having consulted with the adjacent landowner, we're proposing to plant the tree in the location shown by the What3Words black square towards the top of the map. Here's the link to the location on What3Words.
The proposed location shouldn't hamper the seasonal grasscutting by ERYC. If you happen to be passing by, look out for a plastic stake with a ribbon to indicate the location.
We are also hoping to hold an event to mark the planting of the tree.
If you have any comments about the proposed location, or if you would like to attend the event, please get in touch by e-mail or by using the Contact Us page.

Damage to Grass Verges

We will be reporting a number of damaged grass verges to East Riding of Yorkshire Council for repair. Please contact us via e-mail or via the Contact Us page if you see any other damaged verges and we'll be more than happy to report them for you.

Please note: East Riding of Yorkshire Council have advised the Parish Council that residents should not place rocks, bollards or similar items on grass verges to prevent damage as doing so hinders the summer grass cutting and may leave property owners liable should damage be caused to passing vehicles.

Promote Your Local Business!

If you live in our Parish and have a business that serves the local community then we can help you to spread the word about it. Please contact us via e-mail or via the Contact Us page and tell us more about your local business and about you.

We hope you will find our website a helpful and informative source of news for residents and visitors. Covering parish events, places to go, places to stay and things to do, as well as information on all aspects of the Parish Council`s work.

The Parish is rural by nature and is situated on chalk land at the start of the Yorkshire Wolds, embracing the villages of Millington and Givendale along with the outlying communities of Ousethorpe, Grimthorpe and Little Givendale.

We have a lot to be proud of. Millington cum Givendale parish is surrounded by beautiful countryside, walks and cycle routes; and is home to a traditional CAMRA awarded pub, a tearooms and restaurant, a village hall and two historic churches.

A warm welcome to new residents (see `Village Diary` under `Parish Information` for a summary of annual events) and to all visitors;(please use our car park on the top road of the village). Welcome also to dog walkers who clean up after their dog! and a polite reminder that this is a legal requirement(the bins located at parking area, next to the church railings and the village spring can be used) - thank you for your co-operation.

The ERYC Dog Warden can be contacted on (01482) 396301.

The Parish Council have compiled a document detailing useful information for new residents which can be found here.

You can contact the Parish Council by e-mailing us or by using the Contact Us page.
